Flu Shot or Cash Infusion? College Students Lining up for a Shot at $20,000 as iOme spreads on Campus. Going viral?
GREEN BAY, Wis.-(Business Wire)-September 27, 2009 - An infusion of new sponsor money brings the Top Prize to $20,000 – plus a trip to Washington DC – for the college student(s) who develops the best idea(s) for redesigning the US Retirement System.
Students, apparently, are becoming interested: www.iOmeChallenge.org received a record number of hits last week. It was also the lead story on Washington Business Tonight. The conversation continued heating up on facebook, Twitter and a few of the blogs as well.
“First, we listen,” said Michael Kiley, president of Plan Administrators, Inc., (PAi). “We’re asking students what they think - and what they think we should do about their retirement challenge. Then, we’re going to take those ideas – and those students – to Washington and get to work.” PAi is a sponsor of iOme.
Students from Community Colleges, Technical Schools, Colleges and Universities are eligible; student teams must identify a leader, a faculty advisor and complete the Intent to Submit form by Oct. 15, 2009; final entries due no later than December 31.
A Blue Ribbon Panel will determine the winners. Thought Leaders from Yale University, University of Chicago and University of Maryland – along with business leaders and entrepreneurs – serve as iOme judges. Their decision will be announced January 10.
A large cash prize is nice, but the winning team also gets to represent the entire Generation. In January, President Obama is expected to address “The US Retirement Challenge” during The State of the Union speech. iOme winners will go to Washington to present their ideas and possible solutions to policy makers, policy wonks and the media. Not only will this be a lucrative, resume enhancing, once-in-a-lifetime trip, but the winning students could change the future of an entire generation!
“It’s an exciting incentive,” Kiley added. “May the best team win.”
PAi and Nicolet National Bank of Green Bay WI are primary sponsors of the iOme Challenge.
