University of Miami Hires Vice President of Human Resources

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-(Business Wire)-September 25, 2009 - The University of Miami announced today that Nerissa E. Morris would be its new vice president for human resources.

Morris has more than 20 years of human resources experience with the Ford Motor Company. She is currently the Human Resources Manager for Global Information Technology, with responsibility for information technology professionals in the Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific.

“I am delighted that Nerissa will be joining the University,” said Senior Vice President for Business and Finance and Chief Financial Officer Joe Natoli. “Her experience with one of the country’s largest and most complex organizations will add immediate value. The University wants to attract, develop and retain the best and brightest employees. That will be Nerissa’s mission from day one.”

She has held senior human resources positions with Ford in the U.S., Sweden, and Brazil, including Volvo Cars Research and Development, Ford South American Operations, and Ford, Lincoln and Mercury Marketing and Sales. Her breadth of experience and expertise include leadership and team development, strategic planning, labor affairs, compensation, succession and retention planning.

In her new position, Morris will oversee human resources operations including benefits and compensation, compliance, learning and development, performance management, employee relations and diversity efforts. She will join the University in late October.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Master of Business Administration from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her professional affiliations include the Society of Human Resource Management, and the National Black MBA Association.
