The Campo Band of the Kumeyaay Nation Win “The Collaboration of the Year” Award

SAN DIEGO-(Business Wire)-September 25, 2009 - The Campo Band of the Kumeyaay Nation took home the top award for “The Collaboration of the Year” at San Diego’s prestigious Dealmaker of the Year Awards ceremony today.

The Campo Tribe won for their collaborative $300 million wind power project on tribal land in Eastern San Diego County. The tribal government is conducting the project with Invenergy LLC and San Diego Gas & Electric. The wind energy project will produce 160 MW of renewable power that could offset as much as 57,600,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

“We are very honored to receive this award today,” said Chairwoman Monique LaChappa. “Development of this project will allow the tribe to further diversify our tribal economy while bringing further economic development to the communities of east county. We are proud to continue the Campo Band’s leadership as the largest producer of clean, reliable wind energy on Indian lands in the United States.”

The Fermanian School of Business and Business Center of Point Loma Nazarene University and Title Sponsor Nielsen Construction held the “Dealmaker of the Year” Awards breakfast. This unique, annual event focuses on individuals and projects that propose creative solutions to difficult problems.

This environmentally sound project will play an important part in helping the region and the State of California meet their goals for renewable energy development,” said LaChappa.
