EUGENE, Ore.-(Business Wire)-September 25, 2009 - The Foundation for Global Sports Development (GSD) is treating 50 at-risk kids from the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco to the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games free of charge. But what does an at-risk kid from California have to wear in a Canadian winter?

San Francisco-based Gap Inc., one of the world's largest specialty retailers, stepped in with the answer.

Gap, which operates well-known brands such as Gap, Banana Republic and Old Navy, donated winter clothing for all 50 kids for GSD’s Vancouver trip so that the children can soak in the Olympics and its valuable lessons—without soaking in the snow.

During their stay, the kids will get to watch the games, meet Olympic legends, mingle with world leaders and become a part of history. The program is designed to promote sportsmanship, fair play and ethics among these at-risk children who would otherwise never have access to this exclusive, global event.

“Most of us take so much for granted,” said Gap Foundation spokesperson Jeff Shum. “It feels great to be able to make a difference for kids who really deserve this chance to explore something as culturally vibrant and stimulating as the Olympic games. It’s a wonderful opportunity that The Foundation for Global Sports Development is giving these children, and one whose lessons could last a lifetime. Gap is pleased to help make the experience a better one in its own small way.”
