MALVERN, Pa.-(Business Wire)-September 25, 2009 - Rajant Corporation today announced that the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) has approved the BreadCrumb® WE-IS for use in gassy underground coal mines. Originally designed for military applications, the BreadCrumb® WE-IS is the only hardware of its type that is constructed for portable use, weighing in at less than five pounds.

The Miners’ Act of 2006 required all US coal mines to have a communication and tracking plan in place for disaster control and prevention. To avoid the dangers of spark ignition from electrical equipment, MSHA also instituted safety parameters for related networking hardware. The Rajant BreadCrumb® WE-IS underwent extensive analysis and testing by MSHA.

“The BreadCrumb® product line is ideal for use in mine safety, rescue and emergency operations,” said Peter Lenard, Senior Vice President at Rajant Corporation. “After a rigorous testing period, we’re proud to have achieved MSHA certification for the BreadCrumb® WE-IS and pleased to be able to make this proven, safe, high-quality networking product available for the underground coal mining industry.”

The BreadCrumb® WE-IS wireless node can be used to create a stand-alone network or the extension of an existing network. Rajant’s BreadCrumb® technology supports voice, data and position location applications. The BreadCrumb® WE-IS comes with one radio, a high-gain flexible antenna, integrated IS battery, BITE LED for range notification and placement, and a rugged industrial-grade case. Rajant has additional BreadCrumb® products in evaluation by MSHA which feature extended battery life and multiple radio configurations.
