OMAHA, Neb.-(Business Wire)-September 24, 2009 - West Corporation was selected as one of the top 10 “Most Military Spouse Friendly Employers,” for the second consecutive year according to the October 2009 issue of Military Spouse magazine. The third annual list honors large corporations that have made the greatest effort and have enjoyed the greatest success in hiring the spouses of military troops.

Military Spouse chose the 10 honored companies from a pool of approximately 2,500 that earned a minimum of $1 billion in revenues. In selecting West for the exclusive list, Military Spouse considered the company’s many training opportunities and ongoing support for military spouses from all areas of the armed services. Currently, West provides military spouse employees a variety of benefits including referral bonus, attendance bonus and tenure incentive opportunities.

The magazine also praised West for working closely with the military and programs like the Army Spouse Employment Partnership (ASEP), the Army’s Partnership for Youth Services (PaYS), Marines for Life and Employer Support of Guard and Reserve to recruit, hire and retain military members and their dependents.

Vanessa J-Douglas, West’s Divisional Director of Human Resources and a military spouse herself, feels a strong commitment to hiring military spouses. “[Military spouses] bring a diverse background where their skills and experience have been tested in various markets,” J-Douglas said. “And typically, they easily adapt to their new environments.”

West tries its best to make sure the transition to civilian work life is a smooth one for military spouses and their families. West has not only been recognized by Military Spouse for its recruitment and community support efforts, but also by a number of military programs across the country. West has been honored by ASEP as a top military employer, and the company’s El Paso location was recently awarded the Army Community Service Award for its contributions and commitment to employ military spouses and members of the Fort Bliss Army community.

Additionally, West partners with programs like TAPs (Transition Assistance Panel) through the Army Family Support and Air Force Family Readiness Offices, to regularly teach veterans and military families interviewing, resume writing and job search techniques.

“Seeking employment can be a frightening experience,” J-Douglas said. “However, when you present yourself well by communicating effectively, demonstrating quality customer services and portraying an attitude of trust and teamwork, you gain the competitive edge.”
