CHICAGO-(Business Wire)-September 24, 2009 - Goldberg Kohn is the first High 5 Partner to renew its five year commitment to Scholarship Chicago's initiative to provide talented under-resourced Chicago students earn their college degrees by helping to provide college preparation programs, mentors, summer internships, renewable college scholarships, and career networking opportunities.

An original sponsor and the first law firm to support the High 5 program, Goldberg Kohn will again invest $55,000 over the next five years to provide best practice curriculum to academically ambitious college bound scholars from every neighborhood in Chicago. The program equips young people with the resources and tools necessary to attend and be successful in college that other students from wealthier homes often take for granted. Applications are open to any Chicago high school juniors. Nearly 90% of scholars are either African-American or Hispanic and most are from families with annual incomes of less than $20,000.

“I am eternally grateful to Scholarship Chicago. Through my High 5 experience, I made friends, was able to network, but most importantly I was able to see myself as a leader and a possible example for others,” said Karina Ramirez, graduate of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School and a junior at Georgetown University.

With its over 95% college graduation rate, the High 5 Program is ensuring a steady stream of ambitious, dynamic and diverse college graduates who are entering the workforce, making important contributions, and serving as role models.

"In order for the High 5 Program to continue to produce this pipeline of diverse and talented young professionals, more Chicago-area companies need to step up to the plate," said David Morrison, a Goldberg Kohn litigator and Vice President of the Board of Scholarship Chicago. "If my law firm of 70 professionals can do this, much larger companies and firms should be able to make this same commitment to education and diversity as a High 5 Partner as well."
