Hollywood Stars Raise Awareness of Mental Health

LOS ANGELES-(Business Wire)-September 23, 2009 - The Entertainment Industries Council, Inc. (EIC), the premiere non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of health and social issues through the entertainment industry, announced a list of stars appearing on the 2009 Annual PRISM Awards Showcase television special. The show will air in a nine-network simulcast on Saturday, September 26, 2009. Preeminent entertainment reporter Nancy O’Dell returns as host of the show. Terry Crews (Everybody Hates Chris) and health media personality Dr. Reef Karim serve as guest co-hosts.

The PRISM Awards Showcase is produced by EIC, in collaboration with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) and FX Network. This year’s show features Anne Hathaway, Chandra Wilson, Jessica Lange, Benjamin Bratt, Bryan Cranston, Dr. Phil, Dr. Drew, Sharon Lawrence, Andrea Bowen, Mariette Hartley, Christian Clemenson, Stephen Root, Gary Anthony Williams, JoBeth Williams, Henry Simmons, Cassidy Freeman, Navi Rawat, Dee Wallace, Jayne Brook, Tammy Blancherd, and Danny Arroyo. Shadoe Stevens lends his distinct voice as announcer.

Those honored with PRISM Awards this year included Anne Hathaway for Rachel Getting Married, Dana Delany for Desperate Housewives, Benjamin Bratt for The Cleaner, Chandra Wilson for Accidental Friendship, and William Shatner for Boston Legal. The awards also recognized television series and movies, ranging from drama series such as Boston Legal and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, to comedy series like The Office and King of the Hill, along with Rachel Getting Married, All My Children, Stop-Loss, Dr. Phil, Intervention, and others.

The 2009 PRISM Awards Showcase’s primary simulcast will air at 4:00 p.m. on September 26th on FX, ION Life, Lifetime Real Women, ReelzChannel and Starfish Television, with an encore at 1:00 a.m. An mtvU airing will be at 8:00 p.m. and a National Geographic Channel airing will be at midnight PT / 3 a.m. ET. Additional airings on Retirement Living TV will be at 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET on both Monday (9/28) and Friday (10/2), as well as at 1 p.m. PT / 4 p.m. ET on October 3rd and at 8 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. ET on October 4th. E! is making the show available free on-demand through Time Warner Cable and other cable carriers.
