CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI-(Business Wire)-September 23, 2009 - BioVectra, Inc., a cGMP manufacturing and development partner in Charlottetown, PEI, Canada, announces that it has reached an agreement with Oncolix Inc., a biopharmaceutical company based in Houston, Texas, to manufacture ProlantaTM for human clinical testing. As part of this agreement, BioVectra will be investing $1.5 million in Oncolix. Prolanta is a targeted therapeutic protein under development for the treatment of breast and ovarian cancer.

BioVectra brings specific capabilities in recombinant protein fermentation, downstream processing, and process engineering to the partnership, in addition to a depth of experience and demonstrated track record in cGMP manufacturing of active pharmaceutical ingredients.

“This agreement exemplifies the value we offer the global biopharmaceutical industry, given our ability to undertake appropriate project management and stepwise scale-up in response to a client’s program requirements,” stated Dale Zajicek, Chief Operating Officer for BioVectra. “Prolanta is at an early stage of investigation, and Oncolix needed to identify a partner with a unique set of fermentation and downstream processing skills – who was also willing to customize a scale-up plan, efficiently and effectively under the required regulations.”

“We chose BioVectra as our contract manufacturer because of their ability to produce cGMP manufacturing of Prolanta from shaker flask, to small-scale to full commercial production,” said Michael Redman, CEO for Oncolix. “In addition, BioVectra has significant experience with FDA regulatory compliance.
