Nevion Wins 2009 Star Award for Ventura IP Video Transport

Nevion received the coveted award for its new products for video transport onto IP from its industry-leading Ventura family of transport solutions.
Products in the VS901 family compress SD or HD video, and the VS908 aggregates DVB-ASI transport streams — both provide video encapsulation over IP transport. The products provide extremely efficient and cost-effective service in IP networks for content distribution of any kind — unidirectional, bidirectional, unicast or multicast, contribution or distribution. Designed to carrier-class specifications and features, these products integrate the latest in FPGA technology providing superior video transport over IP with JPEG 2000 compression for visually lossless HD and SD video transport and standards-compliant ASI video multiplexing.

The VS908-AM-GE multiplexes and encapsulates up to eight DVB-ASI transport streams for transmission over IP; the VS908-AD-GE demultiplexer reverses the process. However, the products can be used independently and make ideal video over IP gateways. Each ASI port has a maximum limit of 213Mbps, and the aggregated signal can reach 944Mbps on a Gigabit Ethernet link for maximum throughput. The VS908 features an auxiliary port that allows for local Ethernet data aggregation onto the video network, eliminating the need for a local switch. The same auxiliary port also allows multiple VS908s to be chained together, providing higher port density or bi-directional video transport, helping users to scale their network as required.
The VS901-IED-GE, a single product that can be configured as an encoder or decoder, compresses SD or HD video with JPEG 2000 encoding and also provides the encapsulation required for IP-based transport. The VS901’s visually lossless JPEG 2000 compression helps Nevion customers meet their objectives for scalable bit rates, high video quality, low latency, and low capital and operational expenditure. The VS901 features the lowest constant latency with a complete encode and decode cycle of 45ms, making it the best choice for interactive applications. With the highest level of integration in the industry and low power consumption, the VS901 is also a highly green solution in keeping with Nevion’s steadfast commitment to energy and resource conservation.
The VS901 and VS908 are standards compliant and can be operated in any SMPTE 2022 – compliant network with support for forward error correction (FEC). Recognizing that there are a large number of devices already deployed that are not SMPTE 2022 compliant, the solutions feature a legacy mode with video encapsulation using IP/UDP, ensuring maximum compatibility with devices already installed.
The VS901 and VS908 are also certified to stringent US-based carriers’ NEBS Level 3 requirements for operation in harsh environments, which also satisfies operational requirements for international carriers. The robust performance and flexibility of their design allows the products to be used in video aggregation for distribution or contribution IP networks along with intra-facility, inter-facility, metropolitan, or long distance applications. Their high level of integration also enables the VS901 and VS908 to be platforms, allowing features to be added incrementally through remote software upgrades while minimizing interruption to service. This extends the service life of the products while reducing onsite staffing costs.
