Rand Paul Money Bomb Raises $100,000 by Noon
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-(Business Wire)-September 23, 2009 - Dr. Rand Paul, a candidate for United States Senate in Kentucky, is seeing tremendous online fundraising success today as a Money Bomb has brought in over $100,000 before noon. A Money Bomb, the vernacular term coined for a one-day online fundraising event, is designed to bundle thousands of small contributions on a single day with live, real time results posted on a candidate’s website.
As of 12:00 pm CT, Dr. Paul had brought in over $100,000 from over 1,100 individual donors, with strong potential for an even greater haul. The average contribution was less than $75, evidence of strong grassroots support from every day Americans. A previous Money Bomb held on August 20 brought in over $450,000.

Today’s Money Bomb was organized in response to a fundraiser being thrown tonight by twenty three U.S. Senators in Washington DC for Trey Grayson, Dr. Paul's primary opponent. The $500 per plate event will attract lobbyists, special interests and the political elite. Dr. Paul has refused to accept money or support from interest groups or lawmakers that endorsed the bank bailout or the government takeover of car companies.
“The political elite handed out trillions of taxpayer dollars to bailout their buddies, and Rand Paul is fighting to make sure that never happens again,” said Jesse Benton, an advisor to Dr. Paul’s campaign. “The establishment is sending a powerful message by holding today’s inside the Beltway fundraiser – Trey Grayson is one of us, and we want him in Washington.”
“Grassroots Americans, however, are sending an even more powerful message: they are sick of the status quo, bailouts and special interests,” continued Benton. “Real Americans are speaking out for real change, one small contribution at a time.”
