The Premiere Washington DC Antiques Art & Jewelry Show Announces Free Lecture Series

WASHINGTON-(Business Wire)-September 23, 2009 - The Premiere Washington DC Antiques, Art & Jewelry Show today announced the lecture series schedule that is free to attendees with the cost of admission. The series will offer attendees a chance to learn about a wide range of topics, including porcelain, jewelry, chairs, antique ownership, silver, and Japanese antiquities.

“The Washington DC Antiques, Art & Jewelry Show is truly a venue for novice and experienced antique collectors. The show offers such variety and top-end collections, it should not be missed by anyone with an interest in antiques,” said Andrea Canady, fair director for the Washington DC Antiques, Art & Jewelry Show. “We wanted to expand this show with a lecture series that allows exhibitors and attendees to learn from top industry experts to foster a deeper appreciation and understanding of antiques.”

The lecture series will take place at scheduled times each day. A complete listing including speaker, topic description is outlined below.

Thursday, October 15

1:00 p.m. – “Meissan-300 Years of Exceptional Porcelain” with Mimi Levine of Mimi & Steve Levine

This session will describe the evolution of Meissan, the first European hard-paste porcelain developed in 1708.

3:00 p.m. – “19th Century to Contemporary - Jewelry through the Ages” with Gus Davis of Camilla Dietz Bergeron Ltd.

This lecture will elaborate on the differing jewelry periods from Edwardian until now.

Friday, October 16

1:00 p.m. – “Antiques: Insurance, Inheritance & Taxes” with Todd Peenstra of Peenstra Antiques Appraisals

This assembly will explain the financial intricacies of antique ownership.

3:00 p.m. – “Golden Age of Satsuma” with Matt Baer of The Ivory Tower

This lecture will explore this amazing world of Japanese antiquities.

Saturday, October 17

1:00 p.m. – “History of Chairs” with Judith Miller, author of “Chairs” (Octopus, October 2009 publication date)

In this session, Judith Miller will discuss her new book “Chairs” and the iconic status, designers, historical facts and design details of chairs.

The first annual Washington DC Antiques, Arts & Jewelry Show will exhibit rare and unusual historical art collections and antiques from around the world; original paintings and works of art spanning more than three centuries; fine American and European silver; highly sought 19th and 20th century art glass such as Tiffany, Lalique, Galle and many others.

Show hours are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2009. A Preview Party benefitting the Corcoran Gallery of Art will be held the evening of Wednesday, October 14 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
