Oakley’s Barbershop in Westwood Celebrates 80th Anniversary
LOS ANGELES-(Business Wire)-September 22, 2009 - When Oakley’s Barbershop opened its doors in 1929, Herbert Hoover was president and Babe Ruth became the first player to hit 500 home runs. Not many small businesses survived the Wall Street crash and subsequent depression, so it’s with pride and gratitude to its loyal customers that Oakley’s Barbershop celebrates its 80th anniversary in Westwood.
Over the years, Oakley’s has cut the locks and trimmed the beards of such Hollywood notables as Red Skelton, Bing Crosby, Gary Cooper, James Cagney, Howard Hughes and Humphrey Bogart. The shop displays a collection of vintage barber chairs, barber poles and a small museum of barbering tools, tonics, photos and memorabilia from this bygone era. In recent years, Emmy and Golden Globe-winner, J.J. Abrams and tennis star Pete Sampras have joined the ranks of Oakley’s customers.
Oakley’s offers a range of services for men and women, including barbering, hairstyling, hair coloring and nail services. As one of Westwood’s oldest businesses, Oakley’s continues to build long-term relationships with its customers from UCLA and the surrounding community, offering quality and style in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Oakley’s is located at 1061 Gayley Ave., Westwood. Walk-ins are welcomed and appointments are invited by calling (310) 208-6559.
