FRISCO, Texas-(Business Wire)-September 21, 2009 - Market Street has been named “Best Supermarket” by community members in Allen, Coppell, Frisco, Lewisville, McKinney and Plano in the annual Readers’ Choice Awards published today by Star Community Newspapers. In addition to having every eligible Market Street store in the Dallas-Fort Worth region named as the best supermarket, the Allen and Coppell stores were also selected as “Best Butcher” by readers of the Allen American and Coppell Gazette.

The annual Readers’ Choice Awards are the result of a readership survey conducted by Star Community Newspapers, a subsidiary of American Community Newspapers, LLC, which publishes 15 local newspapers in the DFW area including the six that listed Market Street as one of each community’s better businesses. In Plano, the recognition as “Best Supermarket” comes less than six months after the grand opening of Market Street’s newest North Texas location.

“We’ve opened four stores in the DFW area in a little over a year and have been overwhelmed by the warm, Texas-style reception and welcome we’ve received from each new community,” said Dan Sanders, CEO of United Supermarkets, LLC. “Being recognized as the ‘Best Supermarket’ in every Star Community town that we’re a part of is truly an honor. I’d like to say ‘thank you’ to all the North Texas residents who’ve made our move into the Dallas market incredibly rewarding and successful.”

Market Street stores are well known for positively impacting their respective communities. During the course of its DFW expansion, Market Street generated more than 1,600 new jobs to boost the local economy in less than six months. In September, the company raised almost $20,000 specifically for United Way organizations in the DFW-area at its 18th annual Jacky Pierce Charity Classic golf tournament as well as donated $100,000 to the Arts of Collin County to fund the construction of an arts hall considered to be a great cultural and economic addition to the community.

“2009 has been an amazing year for Market Street in DFW,” Vice President of Marketing Randy Crimmins said. “It’s a great feeling when the guests we proudly serve pat us on the back. We highly value the opinions of our community members and are dedicated to maintaining their confidence and upholding their service standards.”

Market Street is currently a “Best Organic Food Store” nominee in the 2009 Best of the Metroplex Family Choice Awards, while the cooking classes conducted by its trained culinary staff in Colleyville, Frisco and McKinney are in the running for “Best Date Night” in the same program conducted by Metroplex Baby & Kids, an online resource for events, advice and family issues in the DFW area. Market Street guests can nominate the grocer for both of these categories online at www.MetroplexBaby.com/Best-Of-The-Metroplex. Businesses must receive at least 50 verified nominations by Sept. 30.

Market Street is a unique shopping experience that combines the everyday groceries guests need with the specialty items, whole-health/gourmet products and pre-prepared foods they want. In 2003, Market Street opened its first DFW store in Colleyville. Almost identical stores followed in McKinney, Plano, Allen, Frisco and Coppell-Lewisville.

Fans can find Market Street DFW on Facebook and Twitter.
