Jump for the Cause and Perris Valley Skydiving Center Host Wounded Warriors
LOS ANGELES-(Business Wire)-September 21, 2009 - Jump for the Cause (www.jumpforthecause.com) will be celebrating the nation’s wounded warriors on Wednesday, September 23rd, at Perris Valley Skydiving Center (www.skydiveperris.com), Perris Valley, CA. The two organizations will host a dozen Wounded Warriors (www.woundedwarriorregiment.org) and their families for a day of fun, sun and skydiving.
The Wounded Warrior Regiment’s mission is to provide and facilitate assistance to wounded/ill Marines, Sailors attached to or in support of Marine units, and their family members throughout the phases of recovery. The service members will be offered the option of doing a tandem jump or trying out the wind tunnel, while their families relax and enjoy the spectacular Jump for the Cause Women’s World Record Skydiving Event. At sunset, ex-Special Forces and Golden Knight, Dana Bowman, will be jumping into the event under a Purple Heart canopy while flying smoke and a 1000 square foot flag.
During that same week, from September 21 - September 27, skydivers from around the world will join together to set a new women’s world record in formation skydiving to raise funds for breast cancer research at City of Hope. Sponsored by Jump for the Cause, the leading nonprofit organization that organizes skydiving fundraisers, the event will kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. This year, the 180 women who are participating in Jump for the Cause (JFTC) hope to raise a half-million dollars to help the more than 200,000 American women diagnosed in 2009, and the one in seven women around the globe who will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetimes. Ten planes will be used to lift the 180 women to 17,000 ft. for about 30 jumps over one week to build the new Women’s World Freefall record.
