TAIPEI, Taiwan-(Business Wire)-September 18, 2009 - To attract potential Japanese visitors to the 2010 Taipei International Garden and Horticulture Exposition, the Taipei City Department of Information and Tourism (TPEDOIT), launched in Tokyo a promotional campaign for the event starting this September.

The first activity of the campaign took place in Tokyo Midtown on September 15. Targeting young Japanese females in the 20-30 age group, TPEDOIT has invited Taiwanese actress Kwei Lun-mei and Japanese actress Minami Akina to serve as spokespersons for the campaign.

According to TPEDOIT Chief Secretary Hsueh Chiu-huo, Taipei City is proud of its convenient public transportation system, low crime rates, and friendly residents. Believing that the city is an ideal destination for Japanese holidaymakers, he invites the Japanese to visit Taipei.

Hsueh pointed out in a press conference that the stereotypical image of Taiwan for the Japanese public is a place for shopping, food, and foot massage. While Taiwan has always been popular with young Japanese female travelers, TPEDOIT hopes to promote Taipei’s image as a friendly and “comfortable” city. He is convinced that the upcoming 2010 floral expo would be an ideal opportunity for the Japanese to see Taipei. “Let the world see Taipei, and let Taipei embrace the world” is the goal set by Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin for the 2010 exposition.

Attending the press conference in a blue dress, Kwei told the Japanese that they can also enjoy delicious foods and pick beautiful calla lily in suburban Yangmingshan farms while visiting the Taipei floral expo. The young actress came from Taipei on Sept. 14 for the promotion.

Starting on September 14, promotional vans carrying the poster of Kwei and the Taipei floral expo will rove in downtown Tokyo between noon and 10 p.m. for 10 days, providing outdoor mobile advertisement for the event. In addition, the expo advertisements will appear on subways, magazines, and the Internet during the month of September.
