Harris Corporation Taps Level 3 to Support 2010 Census
BROOMFIELD, Colo.-(Business Wire)-September 17, 2009 - Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: LVLT) today announced the company has been selected by Harris Corporation to provide voice and Internet network services for the 2010 Census local census offices. The census occurs every 10 years to count everyone residing in the United States, Puerto Rico and the outlying U.S. islands. Since March 2009, Level 3’s services have been used to support 151 Early Local Census offices in the United States and Puerto Rico for the Census Address Canvassing Operation.
“Establishing the network infrastructure and services for efficient and secure data collection is a key component to the successful completion of the 2010 Census,” said Richard White, vice president, Washington Operations, Harris Corporation. “With a nationwide network footprint, Level 3 offers the network reach and services necessary to support field data collection as part of the 2010 Census.”
Under the terms of the two-year agreement, Level 3 will provide voice services to 494 Local Census Offices in the United States and Puerto Rico, supporting more than 500,000 census field workers. In addition, Level 3 will deliver high-speed Internet services to connect these offices and transmit information to census field data collection centers.
