LA, Los Angeles Times Magazine to Host 'Conversations on Health & Wellness' October 10th
LOS ANGELES-(Business Wire)-September 17, 2009 - LA, Los Angeles Times Magazine (www.latimesmagazine.com) will host “Conversations on Health & Wellness,” an intimate, immersive event devoted to mental and physical fitness, Saturday, October 10th at Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. The event will be an experiential companion to the magazine’s October 4th health & wellness issue with Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and cancer survivor Sheryl Crow giving the keynote and a candid cover story interview in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“Getting and staying well is everyone’s goal,” said LA Editor in Chief Annie Gilbar. “We’re celebrating California’s emphasis on wellness with a day of personal stories, research updates, and a chance to learn about the newest techniques – all at a beautiful seaside resort.”
The event will address anti-aging, wellness & prevention, plastic surgery, fitness & nutrition, future medical treatments and more. Activities such as meditation, yoga, massage, beauty treatments and a sampling of products and equipment are included with the event. In addition to Crow, scheduled speakers include Laura Ziskin, co-founder of Stand Up to Cancer; Dr. Sue Smalley and Dr. Dan Siegel, co-founders of the Mindful Awareness Research Institute at UCLA; Dr. Tim Miller, plastic surgeon and Operation Mend founder, with Octavio Sanchez, Iraq War veteran; Dr. P.K. Shah, director of Cardiology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center; Marianne Williamson, spiritual teacher and author; Kathy Freston, author of Quantum Wellness; Dr. Dennis Slamon, developer of cancer drug Herceptin; Rory Freedman, co-author of Skinny Bitch; Dr. Soram Khalsa, proponent of integrative medicine and author of The Vitamin D Revolution; Anne Wojcicki, biologist and personalized medicine advocate; Ashley Koff, registered dietician and author; Brad Bose, personal training and fitness expert; Dr. Sonia Ancoli-Israel, specialist in sleep disorders, aging and chronic illnesses. In addition, Emmy winner Tyce Diorio will present the piece he choreographed in honor of breast cancer for season five of “So You Think You Can Dance.”
LA’s October issue will reveal how California positioned itself as the wellness awareness capital – as early as the 1880s – and how the state’s population flourished around hot springs and ocean breezes. An insider’s guide to spas that infuse indulgence with healthful techniques and dance classes that combine exercise and stress relief with eye-catching moves will be the focus of the publication’s Style List and LA’s signature features and interviews will, as always, highlight Southern California’s most influential people, places and ideas – in print and online.
The event’s Supporting Sponsor is Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital. Breakfast, lunch and a gift bag are included with ticket purchase and overnight packages are also available. For tickets and further event details, please visit www.latimesmagazine.com/events.
