Pacific Northwest Autumn Budget Travel Getaways

SISTERS, Ore.-(Business Wire)-September 16, 2009 - Would you please go outside and play? That’s the message from the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce, which is urging fun-lovers of all ages to put down what they’re doing and go outside before the snow flies.

The gateway to Central Oregon, the Sisters Country sits at the intersection of high desert, historic ranches and farms, alpine lakes, cold-running rivers, Pacific Northwest national forests, and the Cascade Mountains. It’s a mecca for cycling, hiking and fly fishing and a playground for outdoor enthusiasts of every type.

“We’ve put together an October calendar with 31 budget travel getaway ideas, one for every day, all related to the great outdoors,” says Chamber executive Erin Borla. “It won’t cost you a fortune and you can bring the kids and the dog.”

The opportunities range from an astronomy star party (telescopes provided), to touring national grasslands on horseback, to fall foliage hikes, to cheering on the Sisters High School Outlaws football squad under the Friday night lights.

On October 3, for example, eco-tourists can do some good and visit some of the best wildlife viewing and salmon spawning habitat in the region at a planting party to restore critical fish and bird habitat at Camp Polk Meadow Preserve.

The recommendation for October 12 is a locals’ choice cycling route from Sisters to Smith Rock and back, along with plenty of ideas for other moderate to epic road biking in the area.
