BOULDER, Colo.-(Business Wire)-September 16, 2009 - A new Natural Habitat Adventures trip departs this month, and it’s noteworthy that the eco tour company, known for intimate wildlife encounters with rare animals and ecosystems around the planet, will this time head into its own Colorado backyard, exploring Rocky Mountain high country within hours of company offices. Natural Habitat Adventures is not alone in this “no place like home” approach, with economic challenges helping motivate U.S. travelers to reconsider domestic destinations, including an increased interest in national parks that boosted park visits nearly 4 percent this year.

“We’ve been adding U.S. trips in response to demand from travelers for several years now,” says Natural Habitat Adventures founder and director Ben Bressler. “They’re popular for family adventures – and it’s fun to take a fresh look at how much our country has to offer.” The new Wild Colorado tour, which includes a hike, picnic, and chance to hear bugling elk in Rocky Mountain National Park, is one of four new small-group domestic tours for Natural Habitat Adventures – three with national park visits:

  • Wild Colorado: Explore the best of the Rocky Mountain realm from Rocky Mountain National Park’s wilds to the storied ski town of Aspen (6 days; September; 12 travelers)
  • Wolves of Yellowstone Photo Trip: Experience and photograph Yellowstone wildlife during winter, when wolves are plentiful and visitors scarce (8 days; January; 14 travelers)
  • Winter Yosemite & the California Coast: Enjoy California’s “secret season” from monarch butterflies to seal pups – plus hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing and a sleigh ride (7 days; January; 14 travelers)
  • Discover the San Juan Islands: Encounter the San Juans’ wildlife and history on foot and by sea from old-growth forest hikes to Deer Harbor kayaking (7 days; July; 12 travelers)

Natural Habitat Adventures gives back to the destinations it visits with economic initiatives, conservation education and sustainable practices. A member of Adventure Collection and exclusive Conservation Travel Provider to World Wildlife Fund, Natural Habitat Adventures’ awards include a 2009 Best Adventure Travel Company ranking from National Geographic Adventure and 2009 World’s Best Tour Operator honors from Travel + Leisure. All Natural Habitat Adventures trips are carbon neutral. For information, visit http://www.nathab.com.
