Louisiana State University

LSU's Annual Comprehensive OMS Review Course is presented by the Louisiana Academy of Continuing Dental Education in cooperation with Louisiana State University School of Dentistry and the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at LSU School of Dentistry.

Specifically designed for oral and maxillofacial surgeons and residents, the primary objective of this program is to focus on comprehensive reviews covering all phases of OMS and advanced cosmetic maxillofacial surgery. The secondary objective of this program is to emphasize critical aspects of surgery with scientific support so as to prepare surgeons and residents for specialty examinations. The case formats in all lectures stress the techniques used and the scientific justifications for those techniques.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this CE activity, participants should be able to:

  • use knowledge and material as a study guide for specialty examinations
  • identify areas of weakness requiring further study
  • recognize the format and style of board questions
  • demonstrate increased knowledge of oral and maxillofacial surgery

Accreditation

The Louisiana Academy of Continuing Dental Education in cooperation with LSU School of Dentistry (i.e., LSU Continuing Dental Education) is an Approved Provider in the ADA Continuing Education Recognition Program.

LSU Continuing Dental Education designates this educational activity for a maximum of 37 CDE credit hours. CDE credit awarded for this activity may not apply toward license renewal in all states or meet the requirements of other governing bodies. It is the responsibility of each OMS practitioner or resident to verify the requirements of his or her state or governmental licensing board.

Oakstone Medical Publishing designates this educational activity for a maximum of 37 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Method of Participation

This educational activity was planned for oral and maxillofacial surgeons and residents. Each activity is in video and/or audio format and - along with the electronic course syllabus - should be reviewed and read by the learner. In addition, the learner completes a combined CDE and CME 50-question multiple choice post-test and a combined CDE and CME evaluation form.

It should take the average learner about 37 hours to examine the syllabus and observe the video and/or audio. To obtain CDE and/or CME credit, the learner sends in a completed post-test and an evaluation form, pays a CDE processing fee, and/or pays a CME processing fee.
