STOCKTON, Calif.-(Business Wire)-September 15, 2009 - Cozying up to a fire will take on new meaning this fall: supporting the fight against breast cancer. Duraflame (www.duraflame.com) is debuting a pink-packaged firelog this October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Two percent of the Pink Colorlog sales – up to $75,000 – will be donated by Duraflame to help fund breast cancer research.

Duraflame, Inc. is partnering with The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) to introduce the new Pink Colorlog. The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (www.bcrfcure.org) is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to achieve prevention and a cure for breast cancer by providing funding for research and increasing public awareness about good breast health. Since its inception, it has raised over $250 million for research.

“We support the women who are balancing family, work and home, while taking care of their health,” noted Chris Caron, vice president of brand development for Duraflame. “We want to help protect women’s quality of life, and we like that over 85 percent of the resources raised for the foundation goes directly to fight the disease.”

Duraflame joins many national brands – Coach (www.coach.com), Sephora (www.sephora.com), Delta Air Lines (www.delta.com), Clinique (www.clinique.com), and Cartier (www.cartier.com) – that have gone pink to help raise breast cancer awareness and fight one of the most common causes of death in women. In the United States, women have a 1 in 8 (12.5 percent) lifetime chance of developing invasive breast cancer and a 1 in 35 (3 percent) chance of dying from breast cancer, according to 2009 statistics from the American Cancer Society.

“We are very pleased to have Duraflame join the prominent family of products that go pink every year to make significant contributions to breast cancer research,” said Myra J. Biblowit, President of the BCRF. “When consumers shop pink during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it provides critical funding for innovative clinical and translational research at leading medical centers worldwide and increases public awareness about good breast health.”

The new Pink package of Colorlogs will be available from September through December. The Colorlog burns with bright orange flames accented by soft hues of purple, blue and green. As with all Duraflame firelogs, recycled wood fiber and renewable biowax make up the product’s main ingredients. Suggested retail is $25.99 to $27.99 for a for a six-log pack.
