Halo Monitoring, Inc.™ Introduces the myHalo™ Clip for Senior Fall Detection Alerts
HUNTSVILLE, Ala.-(Business Wire)-September 15, 2009 - Halo Monitoring, Inc. ™, makers of wireless healthcare technology, announced today its latest monitoring device – the myHalo Clip. The myHalo Clip resembles a small belt-worn pager and delivers advanced human fall detection technology capable of accurately detecting a senior’s fall and automatically transmitting the alert to casual or professional caregivers, or to Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
The myHalo Clip is the next step in the evolution of the company’s proprietary fall detection technology that was listed in the top ten new senior products during the January 2009 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, NV. In July, the company released the second generation of its fall detection algorithm, and now the myHalo Clip is the most recent addition to the company’s senior monitoring and alert system lineup.
The myHalo fall detection system is unique in that it is not based on tilt-sensors of any kind. The system uses solid state accelerometer sensors and proprietary, low power, advanced motion signal processing techniques that allow myHalo to detect falls in situations not previously possible:
- Detecting falls that do not leave the person in a horizontal position (e.g. propped against furniture or a wall)
- Eliminating the need to remove the device when reclining in a chair, sofa, or lying in bed.
Traditional tilt-sensors have a “long lie” requirement, which means a senior user must remain inactive and horizontal. This is not always how humans fall. A fall can injure a human regardless of the final resting position. Further, there are many normal activities that require a human be horizontal (such as reclining and sleeping). These activity restrictions represent compliance barriers for senior users as they must remove the device when reclining (and subsequently remember to replace the device when they stand up). The myHalo fall detection technology addresses both issues.
“The myHalo Clip now offers our customers a choice in comfortable wearability. For those seniors with chronic conditions, we continue to recommend the myHalo chest strap to track key vitals such as heart rate and temperature,” states Chris Otto, CEO of Halo Monitoring. “However, for those who prefer an alternative and do not need the more advanced health monitoring capabilities, the myHalo Clip is the perfect solution. It is easy to wear on a belt or pants but still addresses the senior’s primary fear of falling.”
“Our research shows that falls are the number one reason seniors purchase medical alert systems today,” said Pamela Martin, VP of Business Development for Halo Monitoring. “While we are clearly focused on the needs of independently living, elderly adults, we routinely receive inquiries from OEM opportunities, acute health care, space industry, and now military applications with an interest in human fall detection.”
Halo Monitoring’s product, myHalo, is a Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) and is the most advanced personal health monitoring and alert system currently available for seniors; it immediately detects when the senior user falls and automatically transmits the alert to casual or professional caregivers, or to Emergency Medical Services (EMS). It is the only medical alert system of its kind performing automatic fall detection.
