Recycling in Trumbull – All about Kids Getting Active and Having Fun!
TRUMBULL, Conn.-(Business Wire)-September 15, 2009 - Children in Trumbull (CT) have a reason to get outside, get dirty and have fun - a sustainable playground. The FULL CIRCLE playground, expected to open in late-October 2009 at the Trumbull Nature and Arts Center, is donated to the Town of Trumbull by The Sun Products Corporation, makers of fabric care products including brands such as “all”®, Wisk® and Snuggle®. The FULL CIRCLE playground initiative utilizes “plastic for playgrounds” representing the equivalent of 50,000 Sun Products plastic (HDPE#2) laundry containers recycled rather than landfilled. Sun Products associates and community members will contribute more than 2,000 volunteer service hours to the Town of Trumbull to build the playground. The Town of Trumbull is home to Sun Products’ soon-to-open North American Technology Center.
“Trumbull works hard every day to ensure a high quality of life for our citizens. Sustainability is a priority reflected in all we do to preserve our beautiful and healthy community. The Full Circle Playground represents a true public-private partnership based on a shared commitment to sustainability and the future of our town. Sun Products is an important and valued partner in Trumbull’s economic growth and a respected community partner,” commented Trumbull’s First Selectman, Raymond G. Baldwin. “The FULL CIRCLE Playground provides a wonderful recreational resource for families and an excellent example of our environmental sustainable practices. The Nature and Arts Center is the perfect place to showcase our shared commitment.”
“The FULL CIRCLE playground initiative is about being good citizens and acting responsibly as we strive to meet the needs of the communities where our associates work and live,” commented Craig Slavtcheff, Senior Vice President, Research and Development, Sun Products. "Trumbull is home to our new North American Technology Center. Innovation and technology are at the core of our vision for growth and the new Technology Center will be a driving force in our business. The FULL CIRCLE playground is a tangible demonstration of our commitment to the environment and to the Town of Trumbull, an outstanding partner now and as we to grow. “
Sun Products and the Town of Trumbull will engage all six of Trumbull’s Elementary Schools and the Trumbull Early Childhood Learning Center in a recycling program inviting children to bring laundry and household “HDPE#2” plastic containers to school. For the fall semester, all the plastic collected by the elementary schools will be transported to a sustainable lumber manufacturer and extruded into lumber used in the FULL CIRCLE Playground initiative.
“Non-traditional learning programs work to connect the dots between everyday activities and important social topics. Focusing on the environment and green practices are critical to building tomorrow’s citizen stewards,” commented Gary Cialfi, Assistant Superintendent, Trumbull School District. “Sun Products’ FULL CIRCLE playground will let our children see first hand how their actions today - recycling - have important consequences for tomorrow. Lessons such as these are not always learned in a classroom.”
