LOS ANGELES-(Business Wire)-September 14, 2009 - The Los Angeles chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA-LA), long regarded as one of the largest, most sophisticated, and highly-respected groups of public relations (PR) practitioners in the U.S., today announced it will present its second annual social media seminar, Social Media and the Web 3.0 Frontier, on Thursday, September, 24, 2009, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. PDT, at The Olympic Collection Banquet & Conference Center in Los Angeles, Calif.

The professional development event, open to both PRSA members and non-members alike, will feature dual keynote addresses from two of the world’s most highly-regarded and sought-after social media experts, Emanuel Rosen and Peter Shankman. Additionally, seminar attendees will also participate in panel discussions and workshops spearheaded by experienced senior strategists from leading Los Angeles-area PR firms and social media boutiques.

Rosen is the New York Times and Wall Street Journal best-selling author of The Anatomy of Buzz, and an authority on word-of-mouth marketing often referred to as “The Godfather of Social Networks.” A widely-quoted pundit on marketing and communications issues, Shankman is the founder and CEO of The Geek Factory, Inc., a PR firm specializing in the design and implementation of social media campaigns for major brands. He is also the creator and manager of Help A Reporter Out (HARO), the world’s largest free journalist source repository offering over 1,200 queries weekly from worldwide media outlet, and daily access to more than 100,000 international sources.

“This year’s social media seminar features one of the most exciting and impressive speaker line-ups ever assembled by PRSA-LA for an event of this nature, and an ambitious, comprehensive program that is highly relevant to all communications professionals, regardless of their experience or familiarity with today’s social media platforms,” said Rita Tateel, president of PRSA-LA, and founder and president of The Celebrity Source. “As a result, Social Media and the Web 3.0 Frontier promises to be the chapter’s can’t miss event of 2009, and serves as yet another wonderful opportunity for L.A.-area PR practitioners to gain more strategic insight and knowledge concerning this rapidly-evolving medium.”

Following Rosen’s opening address, Nick Mendoza, director of digital communications at Zeno Group, will moderate a panel discussion of senior agency executives entitled, “Creating Winning Social Media Strategies and Programs.” This lively debate will feature Sue Bohle, APR, Fellow PRSA, founder and president of The Bohle Company; Keisha Brown, senior vice president and general manager of Lagrant Communications; Judy Johnson, executive vice president and managing director of GolinHarris; and Daniel Lemin, director of social media at PainePR.

After a brief refreshment break, attendees will have the option of attending one of two breakout sessions. In the first workshop, entitled “Emerging Social Media Technologies and Platforms,” Johnny Royal, founder, executive director, and CEO of Luthier Society, Inc., discusses the future of social media, and addresses the development and availability of new technologies and platforms, such as revolutionary online communities, mobile applications, and campaign measurement software.

In the second workshop, entitled “Social Media Basics and Core Training” and geared toward social media novices, Serena Ehrlich, co-founder and leader of social programs and viral weaponry at Startup Army, offers essential social media training, and discusses the nuances of utilizing Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn and Twitter to general brand awareness and build business relationships and leads.

Shankman will provide the keynote luncheon address, preceded by brief remarks from William Murray, president and COO of PRSA.
