Her Grace The Duchess of Norfolk to Visit Philadelphia to Launch New Homeless Charity Depaul USA and Celebrate the Opening of Its First Program Depaul House
PHILADELPHIA-(Business Wire)-September 14, 2009 - Her Grace The Duchess of Norfolk, a Trustee of Depaul International, will visit Philadelphia on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 3 P.M. to dedicate Depaul House, the first program of Depaul USA. Depaul House USA is based in the Germantown area of Philadelphia and will provide a home for twenty-five men who are experiencing homelessness.
Depaul residents receive basic services and support to create a healthy lifestyle, increase financial stability, develop strong interpersonal relationships and strengthen their ability to regain and maintain permanent employment and move to appropriate housing on their own. Depaul is committed to the provision of intensive on-site case management as well as critically important supportive services that assist residents in overcoming barriers to stability and self-sufficiency.
“During this period of recession and challenge, homeless people need our support more than ever,” said Her Grace. “Depaul USA will work closely with other state and voluntary agencies in Philadelphia to give people a place to call home and a stake in their community.”
Her Grace The Duchess of Norfolk is married to the Duke of Norfolk, Premier Duke in the peerage of England, and also, as Earl of Arundal, the Premier Earl. The Duke and Dutchess are responsible for major state occasions such as the opening of Parliament by the Queen and any future coronations of the monarch.
Her Grace became a Trustee of Depaul International in 2006. In a private capacity, she makes many trips to the Depaul programs in the United Kingdom (UK), Republic of Ireland, Slovakia and the Ukraine and now in the United States. Her visit to Philadelphia marks an historic occasion, being the launch of Depaul USA.
Father Bernard M. Tracey, Chairman of the Board, Depaul USA, knows Philadelphia has a strong community of organizations working to house and support people experiencing homelessness and Depaul USA plans to complement and enrich the services offered.
“We thank Her Grace for her visit to the City of Philadelphia and specifically for her support for the community of Germantown. We also appreciate the tireless efforts of the Office of Supportive Housing in helping to get Depaul House off-the-ground,” Father Tracey said. “We see this as the first of a series of initiatives to help the homeless and disadvantaged in Germantown and Philadelphia.”
