Oreck Corporation Beats Odds Adds New Outlet Store to Their 450 Thriving Retail Centers
COOKEVILLE, Tenn.-(Business Wire)-September 10, 2009 - While many troubled retailers and manufacturers countrywide close or lay off workers, Oreck Corporation, maker of vacuum cleaners, air purifiers and other home products, continues to expand with new stores and jobs.
Oreck Corporation opens the company’s first outlet store in Cookeville, Tenn., home of the company’s manufacturing facility, adding to more than 450 Oreck Clean Home Centers across the country. Oreck headquarters in Nashville.
David Oreck, veteran WWII B29 flyer, founded Oreck Corporation in 1963. Oreck President and CEO Bill Fry and David Oreck join Tennessee, Cookeville, Putnam County and State officials for opening ceremonies at new Oreck Outlet Store, 700 S. Jefferson Ave. Cookeville, 10 AM, Friday, Sept. 25.
“I'm pleased Oreck continues to expand its presence in Tennessee," said Matt Kisber, commissioner, Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development. "Oreck's impact on Tennessee's economy has been significant and far reaching and we're privileged to have one of the world's most recognizable names among home consumer products calling Tennessee home.”
“I founded the company 47 years ago with a commitment to America,” Oreck said. “Oreck is committed to continue having an American factory that can compete with any factory in the world,” he reported. “Our continued success is testament to the value of American workers and American products.”
The new Oreck Outlet store in Cookeville, Tenn. offers special discounts on Oreck lightweight, yet powerful hypoallergenic bagged vacuum cleaners, advanced technology air purifiers and other home cleaning solutions.
"We consistently produce high quality, durable products that are the best value and energy efficient both in their function and manufacturing process,” said Fry. ”With US manufacturing Oreck adapts quickly to consumer needs," Fry continued. "Our business longevity and continued expansion, even in a down economy, prove the American consumer wants and will buy quality when given a choice.
“While many other companies lay off workers all over the country, Oreck hired 137 employees and created 67 new positions in Tennessee alone in the past six months,” said Fry. Oreck Corporation has approximately two thousand employees across the country.
”Not only did we move our manufacturing facility, corporate office and call center to Tennessee, we continue to expand our presence in the state,” Fry continued. “Our sales remain strong nationally. We’re opening stores and adding jobs,” said Fry.
“The new Oreck outlet store is another indication of our growth in Tennessee and nationally,” he said. A new Oreck Clean Home Center also opened this September in Germantown, Tenn.
Oreck’s positive news contrasts to a still faltering economy. Retail employment in the U.S. continues to decline, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. In July 2009, retail employment declined by 44,000. Job losses in the industry averaged 27,000 per month over the prior three months.
More than 60,000 stores closed in 2008, according to the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC).
“Cities and small towns across the country face shuttered stores, a sign of poor economic health. Cookeville is a small vibrant town with a positive outlook,” said Fry. “The new Oreck Outlet store gives consumers another opportunity to get high quality products to help create a cleaner, healthier home,” said Fry.
Oreck ‘Clean for the Cure’ Campaign in Fight Against Breast Cancer
The Oreck Outlet opening in Cookeville kicks off Oreck’s “Clean for the Cure®” campaign supporting Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world. October is national Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
"In our support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure in the fight against breast cancer, we designed two new special edition vacuums to help raise donations for the cause," Fry said.
“Susan G. Komen for the Cure is a cause that touches our consumers and we want to give back to the people who buy our products,” noted Fry.
"It is our hope that anyone needing a new or additional vacuum will think of the importance of supporting the breast cancer cause and think pink," he said.
"For every pink-accented Clean for the Cure® special edition Oreck XL® bagged vacuum purchased, Oreck donates $25 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure," Fry said. "To date Oreck Corporation donated more than $1.5 million to Komen for the Cure to search for the cure for breast cancer," he reported. "That puts us in the top 25 percent of donors to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.”
