StubHub to Donate Its Profits from Secondary Ticket Sales of Jay-Z’s 9/11 Charity Concert to the New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund
SAN FRANCISCO-(Business Wire)-September 10, 2009 - StubHub, the world’s largest ticket marketplace, announced today that the company will donate its profits from the upcoming Jay-Z 9/11 charitable concert at Madison Square Garden to the New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund, the artist’s intended beneficiary. StubHub will not profit from any ticket sales to the event and has teamed with the charity to ensure these proceeds will directly benefit the victims of September 11th.
“We strive to provide a first-in-class experience for our fans and have chosen to partner with the New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund for this event, rather than removing ticket listings and turning fans away,” said Chris Tsakalakis, President of StubHub. “In keeping with the original intent of the concert, we want to be sure that any StubHub profits from Jay-Z’s show go directly to these families.”
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to StubHub for the organization’s generous pledge to our charity,” said Linda Giammona, Director of Development of the New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund. “We are thrilled the company has taken the initiative to increase donations for our cause; the contributions will provide additional support to the many families still in need.”
Jay-Z’s charity concert will be held on Friday, September 11th at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
