LOS ANGELES-(Business Wire)-September 9, 2009 - Angel Santiago of the Inland Empire Utilities Agency has been named as one of three vice chairs of the 37-member board of directors of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.

Metropolitan board Chairman Timothy F. Brick announced Santiago’s appointment to the key board leadership position during the board’s August meeting. Santiago joins John W. Murray of the city of Los Angeles and Fern Steiner of the San Diego County Water Authority as Metropolitan board vice chairs.

In taking the board post, Santiago will fulfill the unexpired vice chair term of Marcie Edwards, the city of Anaheim’s representative who recently retired from the board. That term runs through December 2010.

Santiago’s appointment comes six months after joining Metropolitan’s board as IEUA’s representative in February. He also serves on the board’s Business and Finance Committee, Communications and Legislation Committee, and Real Property and Asset Management Committee.

He was first elected to Inland Empire’s board of directors in November 2002, representing the city of Fontana and portions of Rialto and Bloomington. The current vice president of the IEUA board, Santiago chairs the board’s Water Resources Committee, and Public and Legislative Affairs Committee. A government affairs consultant, Santiago serves as IEUA’s representative on the Association of California Water Agencies.
