In a fresh round of expansion, the Port Equipment Manufacturers Association (PEMA) welcomes three new members, including expert crane cabin specialist Brieda Cabins, port vehicle manufacturer Linde Heavy Trucks and port equipment and services group Portek.
“With this new wave of members, our industry knowledge and experience grows once more, equipping us with tools to further improve the scope of cooperation in the ports sector on crucial issues such as safety, environmental protection, technological innovation and regulatory reform,” says PEMA President, Ottonel Popesco.
PEMA has grown rapidly in the past year, with the most recent admissions including construction equipment group Terex Cranes and Swedish industrial lock specialist Loxsystem in July.
For more than 30 years, Brieda Cabins has pioneered industry research and development of crane cabin and control station design. Working closely with crane manufacturers around the world, Brieda Cabins has engineered some of the safest and most ergonomically advanced crane cabin environments across a wide range of applications, including container gantries, RTG cranes, jib cranes, overhead traveling cranes, tower cranes, and cabins for cranes used in steel mills and offshore platforms.
Part of the Linde group, Linde Heavy Trucks Division designs and manufactures a range of high-performance vehicles for applications throughout the ports industry. The Linde Heavy Trucks range includes forklift trucks, sideloaders, reach stackers, container handling and material handling equipment.
Established in 1988, the Portek group has grown to become a leading provider of equipment, services and turnkey systems for the port industry, and an operator of medium sized ports. Headquartered in Singapore, Portek is active in the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, Mediterranean, Africa and the Americas. For its Equipment Engineering business, the group sells and leases cranes, offers engineering expertise to ports on crane mobilization, modification and modernisation, integrates crane drives and automation, and markets and distributes crane components and spare parts globally. The Port Equipment Manufacturers Association (PEMA) was established to provide a forum and public voice for the global port equipment sector, reflecting the industry’s critical role in enabling safe, secure, sustainable and productive ports and thereby supporting world maritime trade.
Chief among the aims of the Association is to foster good relations within the world port equipment community, by providing a forum for the exchange of views on trends in port equipment design, manufacture and operation worldwide PEMA also aims to promote and support the global role of the equipment industry, by raising awareness with the media, customers and other stakeholders; forging relations with other port industry associations and bodies; and contributing to best practice initiatives.
