On October 28, 2009, Silver Starr Art Studios LLC (SSAS) will again host an exhibition in Georgetown at the renowned French art gallery, L’Eclat de Verre. Titled “A Surreal Escape,” this event will feature the latest creations of abstract visual fine artists Enrique Castanon and Fred Budin, as well as musical performances by one of New York’s most innovative vocalists, La Sonya Gunter.

Enrique Castanon returns from ecstatic reviews in Singapore to unveil his latest innovations using canvas and mixed use plastic. Enrique’s works combine traditional form with abstract expressionism, enticingly playing with the viewer’s imagination and physical sensation and reflecting inspirations by artists like Kandinsky and Matisse.

Originally from New York, Atlanta-based Fred Budin’s colorful works have received numerous national and international awards. His fusion of everyday materials, ranging from rope to wood to Walkmans, creates unique painting surfaces that have attracted attention throughout the East Coast, and his works have gained praise for their universal accessibility.

Singer, songwriter, and producer La Sonya Gunter has long been heralded for her alto and contralto voice. Her heartfelt sounds and innovative musical blend of various genres, ranging from funk to new soul to traditional Japanese shamisen music, consistently leaves audiences breathless. La Sonya will treat guests to lyrical works from her eclectic sophomore CD, CrazyBeautiful.

“Here is another example of SSAS's tireless efforts in the community,” says Charles D. Ellison, radio personality, author, and SSAS spokesperson. “It’s inspiring to witness SSAS and these artists using their collective talent to rebuild Life Pieces to Masterpieces. This is absolutely critical in our larger goal towards empowering African-American youth in the D.C. area and beyond."

Tickets to the event are $5 and a portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit Life Pieces To Masterpieces, whose offices were recently vandalized. Complimentary hors d’oeuvres, including refreshments, will be available. For tickets, or to R.S.V.P., please e-mail prdept@ssasarts.com or visit www.ssasarts.com by October 24, 2009.
