IRVINE, Calif.-(Business Wire)-August 31, 2009 - The Orange County Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO-OC) will recognize Cheryl Osborn, founder and president of Casco Contractors, Inc., as Business Owner of the Year at the 2009 Remarkable Women Awards dinner on Oct. 15.

“Cheryl, along with the two other amazing women being honored at our annual dinner, wonderfully represents what NAWBO is all about,” said NAWBO-OC President Karen Gifford, Principal of Gifford Management & Leadership Coaching. “Her passion for success and initiative to mentor young women, combined with her unique vision in creating a construction company founded on strong personal values, exemplifies her enterprising spirit and why she is our courageous remarkable woman and winner of the Business Owner of the Year award.”

Cheryl Osborn represents “courage” among this year’s awards’ theme of “Inspiration, Courage and Hope.” As a woman entrepreneur in a male-dominated industry, she has defied stereotypes and succeeded in leading Casco Contractors, Inc., a Southern California-based general contractor that specializes in commercial tenant improvement, from $600,000 to $25 million in revenue since its start in 2000. Under Osborn’s direct management and her drive to create the best general contracting company in its class, she guided Casco Contractors, Inc. to become the 27th largest woman-owned business in Orange County in 2008 and the eighth-largest tenant improvement contractor in Orange County in 2009.

“As a mom, a mentor and a business woman, my job may not be easy, but it’s definitely rewarding,” said Cheryl Osborn, founder and president of Casco Contractors, Inc. “Women have come a long way, and although we still face many challenges, we continue to overcome and succeed. Organizations like NAWBO-OC, which honor professional women for our multi-faceted roles, provide us with the motivation needed to achieve our goals. I’m thankful to be considered Business Owner of the Year and plan to use this honor to inspire young women entering the professional world.”

Osborn graduated from California State University, Long Beach School of Engineering with degrees in both Construction Management and Interior Architectural Design. She began her career at medium-sized construction and architecture companies working on large projects before directing her focus on commercial tenant improvement. She currently lives in North Tustin, Calif., mentors teenage girls through the American Association of University Women and is a member of the Women Presidents Organization.

NAWBO-OC’s 14th Annual Remarkable Women Awards will also honor two other female business owners for developing successful organizations that promote women’s roles in society, business and at home. Heidi Miller, founder of Tight Assets, and Laura Nebauer, founder and CEO of Deliver-It, Inc., will be awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Entrepreneur to Watch Award, respectively. The annual dinner will be held at the Hilton Hotel in Costa Mesa, Calif. on Oct. 15, 2009.
