DELRAY BEACH, Fla.-(Business Wire)-August 31, 2009 - Honor our nation’s disabled veterans this Veterans Day with the purchase of a limited edition collector’s mug at participating Wendy’s restaurants in the Washington D.C., Baltimore and Salisbury, MD metro areas. Starting September 4, the patriotic keepsake will be available in two distinct designs for $2.99 with all proceeds going to help build the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial in Washington D.C. The collector’s mugs are suitable for hot and cold use and include Wendy’s coupons valued at $2.00. The promotion will continue through Veterans Day, November 11.

DavCo Restaurants Inc., the local Wendy’s franchisee offering the promotion, is partnering for the second time this year with the Disabled Veterans’ LIFE Memorial Foundation, the not-for-profit organization created to raise public funds for the memorial. Phase One of the mug fundraiser kicked off last May and raised almost $60,000 for the Memorial. The inventory of 20,000 mugs sold out in record time. The collector’s mugs, available for purchase through the second phase of the fundraiser, come in two new designs and will be entirely different from the design of the mugs offered during the first phase of the promotion. One design features two Coca-Cola Company collectible retro military images from WWII; the second features a colorful rendition of the U.S. flag.

“We are excited to partner with this extraordinary foundation once again,” said Harvey Rothstein, chairman of DavCo Restaurants, Inc. “We look forward to another wave of great response from the community. We are proud to have forged a strong partnership with a foundation on a historic mission to bring solace and healing to the lives of disabled veterans and their families.”

The American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial will soon be the first National Mall memorial honoring living and deceased veterans who were injured while in service to our country. To date, the Foundation has raised 90% of the total funds needed to design, build and permanently maintain the Memorial, and is only $5 million away from the fundraising goal for groundbreaking.

Lois Pope, co-founder and chairperson of The Disabled Veterans’ LIFE Memorial Foundation, looks forward to continued community-wide participation in the second phase of the fundraising promotion. “We’re honored DavCo Restaurants, Inc. has approached us once again for a fundraising partnership. We’re thrilled by the overwhelming response to the first round of sales and look forward to a repeat success with phase two, bringing us one step closer to making the memorial a reality.”

About the Disabled Veterans’ LIFE Memorial Foundation:

The Disabled Veterans' LIFE Memorial Foundation, Inc. was created in 1998 through the combined efforts of philanthropist Lois Pope, foundation chairman; Arthur Wilson, national adjutant of the Disabled American Veterans; and the late Jesse Brown, former secretary of Veteran Affairs. Formed as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, the Foundation's sole objective is to raise the estimated $85 million in private funds needed to design, build and permanently maintain the nation’s first memorial dedicated to living and deceased disabled veterans – The American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial. Commanding an impressive two-acre site between Washington Avenue SW (Canal Street), C Street SW and Second Street SW, the Memorial will be within full view of the United States Capitol, adjacent to the National Mall, and across from Independence Avenue and the United States Botanic Garden. Soon, thanks for the efforts led by the Disabled Veterans’ LIFE Memorial Foundation, Inc., and supported by veterans as well as concerned and generous citizens and corporations, these soldiers will have a permanent memorial in the nation’s capital that will pay tribute to their sacrifices.
