DENVER-(Business Wire)-August 27, 2009 - This is a statement from Marie Belew Wheatley, president and CEO of the American Humane Association, relative to the issue of a public announcement made by a Weld County, Colo., man to inhumanely kill 24 horses he owns:

The American Humane Association, the oldest national organization for child and animal welfare, headquartered in Denver, is appalled and disturbed to learn of Mr. Parker’s threat to publicly kill 24 of his horses in an inhumane manner over a zoning dispute. As the details of the situation continue to unfold, American Humane encourages Mr. Parker to seek humane alternatives, such as adoption and relocation of the horses. Through American Humane’s resources available to large-animal shelters — and as a member of the Unwanted Horse Coalition and a founder of the Colorado Unwanted Horse Alliance — the organization would gladly work with Mr. Parker to help find a positive solution.
