PALATINE, Ill.-(Business Wire)-August 26, 2009 - Bucking the trend felt by many nonprofit organizations in a tight economy, the 46th Annual Little City Invitational Golf Tournament held Monday (Aug. 24) illustrated incredible community support for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The event set a new fundraising mark for both the tournament and Little City, while helping generate awareness for those in need. Little City Foundation raised more than $400,000 dollars, exceeding the previous year’s total of $375,000 dollars.

The Invitational served as just one of numerous special events planned for Little City’s Golden Anniversary Year.

“This is an amazing accomplishment in today’s economy and we have exceeded even our wildest expectations,” commented Ed Hockfield, Executive Vice President of Little City’s Board of Directors and one of the chairpersons for the golf event.

Exemplifying Humanitarian Morrie Kellman’s philanthropic ideals, Little City presented its prestigious 2009 Morrie Kellman Humanitarian Award to Larry Richman, President and CEO of PrivateBancorp, Inc., and The Private Bank-Chicago, a wholly owned subsidiary of PrivateBancorp.

“It is a great honor to be recognized by Little City, which truly is an amazing organization with a rich heritage of helping the developmentally disabled,” Richman said. “I am pleased I was able to play a small role in helping them continue to succeed.”

“I believe we selected the right person for the right time,” added Executive Director Shawn Jeffers. “Larry Richman is a man who touched and made a difference in many lives over the years, and we’re pleased to honor him.”

More than 280 golfers registered to participate at the invitational held at Twin Orchard Country Club in Long Grove. The event featured a live performance by Little City Resident Jerry Rose and special guests included the Little City’s Special Olympics Golf Team.

Little City Foundation provides residential care, vocational/day programs, counseling, therapy, and much more to hundreds of children and adults throughout Chicagoland. It celebrates 50 years of groundbreaking, innovative service this October.
