ML Resources Social Vision Founder Calls on People of All Faiths to Reach for Peace During Interfaith Service Week
WASHINGTON-(Business Wire)-August 26, 2009 - Muslim Lakhani, the Pakistan-born founder of ML Resources Social Vision, today issued a call for people of all religious affiliations to join together and make a difference in the lives of others. During the 2009 Interfaith Service Week, Aug. 31 – Sept. 6, part of President Obama’s nationwide community service appeal, Lakhani is requesting individuals to come together in service projects that will improve local communities and help foster peace, understanding, and tolerance between people of all backgrounds and religious affiliations. A list of such projects in the Washington, D.C. area can be found at http://serve.gov.
“ML Resources Social Vision was developed in the spirit of sharing and tolerance, the two most important pillars needed to establish a peaceful society,” said Muslim Lakhani, founder of ML Resources Social Vision. “Interfaith Service Week puts these principles into action. By encouraging members of all faiths to join hands and lift up those in need, we are going beyond dialogue and reaching for peace. This is yet another step in the healing process, nine years after the attacks of 9/11.”
During Interfaith Service Week, ML Resources Social Vision will partner with The Salvation Army and The Salvation Army Advisory Council to offer a range of volunteer service opportunities in the Washington D.C. area. These initiatives will provide meals to the homeless via The Salvation Army’s Grate Patrol, a van that feeds more than 3,000 people each month, and the Sherman Avenue Feeding Program, a center that provides lunch to 30-40 people daily.
"The Salvation Army is proud to be partnering with ML Resources Social Vision during Interfaith Service Week," said Major Steve Morris, area commander for The Salvation Army. "Muslim Lakhani first reached across faith lines when his company began funding of The Salvation Army's Grate Patrol on Christmas Day 2008. Our organization has been active in the National Capital Area for over 100 years and we are pleased to work with members of all faiths and backgrounds to serve our neighbors in need and further strengthen our relationship with Muslim Lakhani and ML Resources Social Vision.”
The programs supported by ML Resources Social Vision in the United States and Pakistan seek to grow the cooperation and understanding between people of all faiths by providing services and support to others. The role in Interfaith Service Week follows this goal and also aligns with President Obama’s call for individuals across the nation to participate in community service programs.
“Interfaith Service Week underlines the fact that no matter what religion you profess, we are all guided by the common principle of helping your neighbor,” said Dalia Mogahed, senior analyst and executive director of the Gallup Center for Muslim Studies, and member of President Obama's Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. “By bringing together different faiths through engagement in community service programs, we can put into action these principles and discover that, at heart, we all want the same goal: peace.”
“The efforts of Muslim Lakhani and ML Resources Social Vision in bridging the gap between the West and the Islamic World, particularly Pakistan, is the perfect example of how working as one can foster peace and advance communities,” added Ms. Mogahed.
Interfaith Service Week will begin on Aug. 31 with the Grate Patrol and Sherman Avenue Feeding Program. Members of all faiths and background are invited to participate in events throughout the week.
