Congressman Joseph Cao Briefed on the Vietnamese Government’s Unlawful Imprisonment of Four Members of the Democratic Party of Vietnam (DPV)
SAN JOSE, Calif.-(Business Wire)-August 25, 2009 - Congressman Joseph Cao, the first Vietnamese American elected to Congress, while on a stop in San Jose, California, discussed the recent unlawful imprisonment of four members of the Democratic Party of Vietnam (DPV), Nguyen Tien Trung, Le Cong Dinh, Tran Huynh Duy Thuc and Tran Anh Kim.
Dr. Ngai Nguyen, the Vice Secretary of the DPV, advised Congressman Cao that on August 19, 2009, the Vietnamese Government had shown on national television four members of the DPV who admitted they had violated the laws of Vietnam and regretted their wrong doing and asked for forgiveness. Analysis of the videotape showed that the Vietnamese government had written the script and forced the four to read these prepared words and publicized this through the national media.
According to Dr. Ngai Nguyen, “This intimidation and insulting tactics are unlawful and have no legal value. It is aimed to destroy the most talented, youthful and patriotic people of Vietnam and again shows Vietnam’s abuse of basic human rights.”
Following their meeting, Congressman Cao told Dr. Ngai Nguyen he would discuss Vietnam’s increasing abuse of human rights with his Congressional colleagues when he returned to Washington.
The Democratic Party of Vietnam, on August 21, protested the above unlawful acts to the Vietnamese government and requested the fraudulent tapes be removed and the four patriots be immediately and unconditionally released.
In addition to the release of the above four individuals, the DPV demands the release of all other political members who are still unlawfully imprisoned in Viet Nam, without any restrictions or conditions attached.
